Animals at home and quality of your air

Breathing quality air is very important, both indoor and outdoor. We hear nowadays too much about global warming and the deteriorating condition of Earth’s environment. World leaders sit and try to solve those issues in different forums. Though we can’t do much about global warming individually, what we can do is to at least keep our indoor environment clean. You might be thinking that my indoor environment is very fresh and tidy, but the issues that I am going to highlight will open your eyes, and you will start to realize the importance of the quality of air in your houses.

To start with, we can talk about air pollution issues related to your pet animals. Pet animals can be a source of contamination of the air in your room.

Pet dander is one of the greatest issues. Pet dander consists of small, microscopic particles of skin shed, which can be of dogs, rodents, cats, birds, and other animals with fur or feathers. The problem with these bits of skin is that they can cause allergies to sensitive people.

The skin of the animal is not the only source of pollution in the room.
Some additional allergens originate from proteins that are found in saliva, urine, and feces from the animals, and can also cause reactions to some people. Dried saliva can cause pollution as well, it contains allergens that may flake off from an animal’s fur and become airborne. Where you inhale such contaminated air you may become allergic. In the same way dust from dried feces can also be suspended.

Pet allergens can be very lightweight and tiny. They remain suspended in the air for a long time. Because of their microscopic size and jagged shape, pet allergens easily stick to furniture, bedding, fabric, and in the air ducts as well. Once in the air vent, animal dander can easily be spread in home, school, and offices. These pet dander can cause allergies to kids and old ones present in the house.

It also happens that some people are allergic to pets, while others have asthma that is triggered by allergens from pet animals. Bad quality of air for these people can make their respiratory system even worse and it can lead to disability of lungs to function properly. Other symptoms of allergy can be congestion, sneezing, running nose, and wheezing.

To improve the condition of air in the room. The air ducts should be cleaned frequently; so that the hairs of your pet animals, the dust particles, and other allergens that are stuck in the duct can be removed on time. Furthermore, you should keep your pet animals neat and clean; special care should be taken when they come from outside. Secondly, you should not allow your pets to sit on the sofa, bed, or table because pet animal tends to drop hairs all around, and if mistakenly engulfed, these can be very dangerous to health. Though there is no harm in keeping pet animals proper care should be taken; so that the indoor air quality stays up to the mark.
